Shakespeare in the Vines
Under the setting sun, Essential Theatre invites you to relax in the grounds of Voyager Estate and join in the delight of Shakespeare’s charming comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. This play is a timeless tale of two pairs of lovers – and the people who want them to be together, and the people who try to rip them apart.
After victory in battle, Don Pedro leads his soldiers, including the dashing young Claudio and the clever wordsmith Benedick, to the home of Leonato. The soldiers are greeted warmly by Leonato and his charming daughter Hero and invited to stay. Leonato’s witty niece, Beatrice engages in a merry war of words with Benedick, both proclaiming their scorn for love, marriage and each other. In contrast, Claudio and Hero meeting for the first time, are instantly lovestruck and are quickly betrothed.
However Don Pedro’s brother, Don John, devises a meddling plan to mess with the unfolding romance. Lovers are deceived and happiness is threatened.
